Practicing What We Preach
Posted By silentprincess on March 18, 2005
What a tiresome day I had in the office yesterday. We had our “5S” or referred to as “The Practice of Good Housekeeping” or in short our “cleaning-up” day (waahhh).
To give you a background, 5S stands for five japanese words seiri (sort), seiton (systematize), seiso (sweep), seiketsu(sanitize), and shitsuke (self-discipline). Â It is a systematized approach for organizing work areas, keeping rules and standards, and maintaining work discipline to develop and sustain a productive work environment. Our company provides trainings and technical assistance for this. (wait, this is a free advertisement ah..heheh)
When I first learned that we would be implementing this the next day, I told them that I think I would be sick that day..heheh (katamad naman kase). I could work ’til 2am in the office without any complaints but cleaning all the stuffs inside my cubicle was kinda’ strenuous task for me. But I had no choice. Our company is a consultant for this technology so, we should “Practice what we preach” right?

This is my humble cubicle in the office after 5S.

I started sorting my “jurassic” files and sweeping all the dirt from the office stuffs inside my workplace heavy-hearted. After cleaning up, I felt kind of woozy and nauseated. I think I inhaled too much of the strong scent of the “wipe out” I used in my computer and computer table. I also broke some of my finger nails that I had to cut them all (kainis). Besides that, I had to take out my astroboy toy on my table to follow certain quality workplace standards (ohh, come on! ). Â But as a result, I was amazed by the new look of my computer and the rest of the stuffs inside my cubicle. Â The problem is how I can keep a spic-and-span environment in my workplace for a long time hehe.
When the hubby fetched me, I moaned to him inside the car about my queasiness. Â He gave me his usual comforting technique by caressing my hand while saying in a sweet tone “wawa naman, wawa naman, baby” (I love it every time he does that..ahihihi). As soon as we got home and had our dinner I laid in bed dog-tired trying to watch a movie on HBO while the hubby played “Tantra” on the computer. Â I fell asleep without taking a shower (yuckkk! ) and when I woke up, the sun was up on a Saturday morning (smelly wifey..hehehe).
